The Curling Leaf

A couple of years ago, I spent some time studying and drawing the effect of the autumn, the changes in shapes and the colours – including fungus, seed heads and leaves.

I made two studies of an autumn leaf, curling as it dried, on water colour paper made from rag and cotton. I use tradtional black Sumi and coloured mineral inks with brushes from China and Japan made from bamboo and hair. The painting has been float mounted but not framed.
