Magnolia
The magnolia is one of the oldest trees on Planet Earth – pollinated by a wingless beetle long before bees had evolved. The pink-white bracts of our Magnolia appear during March and April in a spectacular display to welcome the spring.
I created this painting in April and May this year, using Japanese hand made paper that I had purchased many years ago. I use tradtional black Sumi and coloured mineral inks with brushes from China and Japan made from bamboo and hair. The painting has been float mounted and framed in natural Ash.
