Gladioli

Gladiolus – named after the Latin word for little sword, referring to the short sword-shaped leaves of this elegant flower.  Its origins are ancient.  This plant to a familiar sight to the Greeks and Romans.

I love their glorious colours and sculptural shapes rising up every year in the heat of our late summer garden.
