Monstera Deliciosa
A portrait of one of the two enormous cheese plants that watch over me as I work – the guardians of my studio at Thames-side studios. It was my first attempt to paint this plant and it chose that moment to create a new leaf – the leaves unravelled, intact and very, very big!
I created this painting during one winter in lockdown, using Japanese Washi paper made from Mulberry leaves. I use tradtional black Sumi and coloured mineral inks with brushes from China and Japan made from bamboo and hair. The painting has been float mounted and framed in natural Ash
