Our Fig Tree
We planted a fig tree in a pot in a sunny part of the north facing garden. Over the years, it has shown remarkable resiliance to the worng sort of weather and from midsummer onwards, the fruit ripens. I have made many studies of the sculptural leaves and curiously smooth branchrs weighed down with fruit.
I painted our fig tree during the hot summer two years ago, using Japanese Washi paper made from Mulberry leaves. I use tradtional black Sumi and coloured mineral inks with brushes from China and Japan made from bamboo and hair. The painting has been float mounted and framed in natural Ash.
